We are getting behind the Kickstart Scheme to help employers create more new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds.

The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds. The government has introduced a new Kickstart Scheme in Great Britain, a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high quality 6-month work placements aimed at those aged 16 to 24 who are on Universal Credit and are deemed to be at risk of long term unemployment.

Funding available for each job will cover 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus the associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. There is also £1,500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training.

The job placements should support the participants to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the scheme.

For further information please REGISTER HERE FOR OUR FREE KICKSTART WEBINAR (1pm on Friday 16 October), or click here to read the government’s Kickstart Scheme Employer Guide.

How we can help

LMP Education will be the representative that ensures employers are compliant with the Kickstart Scheme funding rules and regulations. We will also make sure you receive the funding in a timely manner.

Our aim will be to support you and “Kickstarter” to ensure you benefit from this fantastic initiative. We have a lot of experience in working with both employers and young people, and arranging further training support through apprenticeships.

Please note that the Kickstart scheme is not an apprenticeship, but participants may move on to an apprenticeship at any time during, or after their job placement.

Please complete this form to book your “Kickstarter”. For further information, please email kickstartscheme@lmpeducation.org.

Why choose LMP Education?

  • We have a lot of experience in working with employers that are taking on young people for the first time (usually for an apprenticeship).
  • We have a lot of experience in managing direct government funding contracts, and in passing on funding to employers.  We have the administrative back-office function, as well as the necessary systems and processes to manage this.
  • We own and operate a national apprenticeship training provider called LMP Education (recently graded “good” by Ofsted).  We therefore can deliver apprenticeship training to your “Kickstarters” when the time is right.  We will support you and your “Kickstarters” to progress into apprentices (if that’s what you would like to do).
  • We work across all sectors. Our expertise is in funding, administration and in supporting young people into employment.
  • We will be holding monthly careers guidance and support webinars for all of your “Kickstarters”.

Employers, please note the following:

Kickstart Scheme job placements must be:

  • 6 months
  • at least 25 hours per week
  • paying at least the National Minimum Wage through PAYE
  • paying the statutory employer duties for the health, safety and welfare for young people, National Insurance and pension contributions
  • including support for young people to help them get work after they finish their Kickstart Scheme job

The Kickstart Scheme job placements must:

  • be funded by the Kickstart Scheme grant and would not exist without this funding
  • be paid from the grant money for the 25 hours per week on National Minimum Wage (employers can pay a higher wage and pay for more hours)
  • not replace existing or planned jobs
  • not cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment

Young people need support so that they are in a better position to find work in the future. By creating a Kickstart Scheme job placement you are helping young people who are at risk of being unemployed in the long term.

The Kickstart Scheme job should help them get basic work skills. This includes:

  • attendance
  • timekeeping
  • teamwork
  • communication
  • travelling to work

Kickstart participants may also need help with:

  • CV and interviews
  • looking for long term work

You need to offer support so they are employable by you or other organisations. You can also work with other organisations to provide this employability support on your behalf.
