Levels of child obesity in the UK are as bad as they have ever been. Poor eating, lack of physical exercise and ignorance are all key factors. Research shows that obese children are at increased risk from a number of serious health problems more usually seen in adulthood, including hardened and blocked arteries (coronary artery diseases), high blood pressure, and type-2 diabetes.  When they grow up, they are more likely to be obese. This means a higher risk of heart attack and stroke, type 2 diabetes, bowl cancer, and high blood pressure in adulthood.  The risk of health problems increases the more overweight a person becomes.

Fit Camp starts to address the needs of young people who might be overweight, unhealthy or unfit.  The camp is just 2 weeks long but the programme is 4 months long and will benefit those who want to make a change to their life for the better!  The emphasis is on fun, activity and care. As well as helping them to improve their physical well-being, staff at the camp aim to build self-esteem and lasting friendships with other young people facing similar challenges.

The Let Me Play “FIT” camp is a unique opportunity for young people to really help themselves out of what can be a life long battle against obesity and depression. It will run from 10 to 22 August 2008 and will take place at the Licensed Vicutallers’ School in Ascot.

Andy Leftley, qualified nutritionist and a member of staff at each Let Me Play camp states;

“The programme we have put together will be a lot of fun but at the same time we will educate both camp participants and their parents into adopting better eating habits and incorporating more physical exercise into their daily lives. We have a team of experts and highly energised staff members that will really motivate these young people to decide for themselves that they want to change their ways for the better”.

Amy Lalla, director of Let Me Play says;

“We are so happy to be able launch this programme; our other camps only attract young people that love sports and exercise. With the FIT camp, we have put together a package designed for people that are adverse to physical activity and exercise. We will create a environment in which they feel safe and secure and through games, outward bound activities, cycling, sports and education, we aim to have a very positive impact on the way in which they perceive themselves and their potential for living life to the maximum!”

Food Diet

There will be plenty of food available on camp; we will stick to well-balanced meals though.

What makes our camp different?

Leadership – Our staff members are fully qualified and have credentials establishing expertise in education, educational management, clinical and scientific aspects of weight loss, behaviour and outdoor education.

Clinical Programme – Well defined programme focused on intensive cognitive-behaviour therapy.

Educational Programme – Our programme is designed and staffed to increase knowledge of nutrition and psychological aspects of long-term weight control.

Diet - Low- fat, Healthful, Balanced, Tasty, Fun – A food plan that focuses on very low fat, but very enjoyable meals and snacks; the plan must exclude all high fat food but compensates by showing variety and balance.

Activities – An emphasis on a wide variety of activities, at least some of which could be maintained readily after camp.  Camp includes use of a pedometer to count steps in camp.

Family Involvement – Families are involved in the change process.

After-care programme – Extensive post-camp intervention that include sustained interactions with staff for at least four months.

Outcomes – Well documented and clearly favourable outcomes using weight measures and additional measures

Location - Well located, away from the city life.

Facilities – Comfortable, well maintained and provided with activities ideal for campers.

The emphasis is on fun, activity and care.  By doing some form of activity and by eating correctly all participants should see weight loss without even noticing it!   Being over-weight and/or unfit can often be the source of teasing and bullying, the camp we have put together will start to build confidence, motivate and help young people create the lifestyle that they want.

Cost of the package: £1200, early booking price: £999 by October 15th. For more information please contact us at info@letmeplay.co.uk or call 0845 009 0933.
